TXST@KT Presents- Unmasking the History of Theater in America
The TXST@KT Speaker series will feature Dr. Kevin Gates, Associate Professor of Instruction in the School of Theatre, Dance & Film at Texas State University at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 23rd. Register for the event online, with a $10 donation to the TXST@KT Scholarship Fund.
In the late 1800s, European theatre began to develop the modern writing, staging, and acting we recognize today. For a variety of reasons, American theatre lagged behind for decades until the work of small, mostly amateur, community theatres modernized U.S. stage productions. Dr. Gates will bring the history of the “Little Theater Movement” to life in an illustrated discussion on how American theatre found its voice thanks to the creativity and commitment of local theater groups.
Dr. Gates received his M.A. in Theatre from Texas State and a J.D. from the University of Houston. Over his distinguished career he has directed and performed in numerous classical productions, musicals and contemporary plays. His work has earned accolades from BroadwayWorld Austin for excellence in both acting and directing.
If you love theater and are a supporter of community theater, you won’t want to miss this fun, informative presentation!
